This is actually why I started this thread-- hopefully when more people learn about the program they will report back. For many cardmembers, maximizing the Amex Platinum statement credits provides the most opportunity for increasing the card’s value. Here are a few tips on maximizing the American Express Platinum card benefits.

Platinum Destinations® Vacations*
Onboard credits and other amenities are available for up to three staterooms per eligible card member, per cruise. So, you can share benefits with fellow travelers if you book all of the staterooms together using your eligible credit card. You can use credit cards strategically to maximize earnings on your cruise purchases, beyond extra points for travel purchases. For example, American Airlines bases its elite status on AAdvantage Loyalty Points accrued through multiple channels, including purchases made with its cobranded credit card. The Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard® (see rates and fees) earns 1 AAdvantage Loyalty Point per dollar spent.
Amex Cruise Privileges Program Benefits
Use your card to pay for an annual CLEAR® membership and receive up to $189 in credits each calendar year toward your CLEAR® Plus membership fees. The normal price of a CLEAR® membership is $189, but if you get a discount on CLEAR membership through frequent flyer elite status or some other means, your membership might not use the full value of your credit. One way of maximizing the Amex Platinum CLEAR® Plus credit is to add an additional member to your account if you’re receiving a discounted membership. The Platinum Card offers over $1,500 in total Platinum value, including statement credits and partner offerings that can cover a variety of charges with Amex partner merchants.
Statement Credits and Partner Offerings

It is my understanding that the credit is per cabin no matter how many are in the cabin or how many cards were used to pay for the trip. I am not interested in the upgrade as we have picked the exact connecting cabins in the location we want. Even if we don't get OBC, there is still a bottle of champagne and a dinner (for 2) in a specialty restaurant which will be a nice perk. I wonder if a single will get a dinner for 2 or only for 1.

Also, the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card earns 2 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent on travel and an elite-qualifying night for every $5,000 you spend on the card. Spend $35,000 on the card in a calendar year, and you'll receive Gold Elite status. Here is our expert advice on the most effective strategies for maximizing the rewards from your cruise bookings. The program is available only to U.S.-based Platinum or Centurion cardholders residing in one of the 50 states.
Amex Platinum cruise benefits
Explore the world and sail off into the sunset; enjoy up to US$300 in savings and other benefits. To see the cruises available through American Express Travel, head to Amex's cruise website and pare down your results by destination, month and cruise line. Go beyond the guidebooks and customize your next vacation exactly to your liking with American Express Travel as your luxury travel advisor. † Ship and stateroom exclusions apply, please see full terms and conditions.
Your booking must be for double occupancy to benefit from the Cruise Privileges Program. You must pay with an American Express card in the eligible Platinum or Centurion cardmember's name, and the cardmember must travel on the itinerary booked. The Cruise Privileges Program offers extra perks on eligible cruises of five nights or more when booking through American Express Travel. With the benefits I listed above, I make money off the card, especially making numerous large purchases a year and they offer 50% more points on purchases over 5k.
Consumer Insurance Benefits
Any portion of a charge that you elect to cover through redemption of Membership Rewards points is not eligible to receive points. Additional points will be credited to the Membership Rewards account weeks after final payment is made. Fine Hotels + Resorts® (FHR) program benefits are available for new bookings made through American Express Travel with participating properties and are valid only for eligible U.S. Consumer, Business, and Corporate Platinum Card® Members, and Centurion® Members. Additional Platinum Card Members on Consumer and Business Platinum and Centurion Card Accounts are also eligible for FHR program benefits. Bookings must be made using an eligible Card and must be paid using that Card, or another American Express® Card, in the eligible Card Member's name, and that Card Member must be traveling on the itinerary booked.
A large cruise purchase can put you on track for both of those bonuses. Once on board, your basic expenses will be covered as part of your cruise booking — including meals in select restaurants and entertainment — but there always will be some opportunities to splurge. You'll need to register a credit card with your cruise ship to pay for drinks and cocktails, meals at one of the fancier restaurants on board, shore excursions and spa treatments. We found the American Express Platinum’s CPP was a great way to get additional benefits when booking cruises through American Express Travel. In our case, we got a $200 Amex onboard credit (that stacked with other Princess promotions), we earned 2x American Express Membership points on the cruise and onboard spending, and we got an additional exclusive welcome gift. Not all staterooms are eligible for Cruise Privileges program benefits.
My TA is an AmEx travel agent and she told me to get it, you have to book deposit with the card and pay the fare in full with it too. Also, I note that the cruise lines don’t offer the perk if you book directly with them. Chiming in, but it was my understanding that you have to actually book the cruise through the AMEX travel site in order to receive the OBC. Also, when I've done "mock bookings" before the fare on the AMEX site didn't reflect the deals on the RCCL site, so it always ended up costing more to book through AMEX anyway. Any other usually show up on board and credited to your account.
The program is offered by some cruise lines, and Princess Cruises is one of them. Assuming your cruise booking meets all of these qualifications, you have a few valuable benefits to look forward to on your trip. Terms and Conditions for the Membership Rewards® program apply. Participating partners and available rewards are subject to change without notice. In addition to an onboard credit, reservations include exclusive amenities unique to each cruise line.
Are the perx automatic or must I notify my travel agent and have her arrange for them? We recently booked an October cruise using our Platinum card and got a one-category Captain's Club Elite upgrade, but didn't realize X was back in the Cruise Privilege Program again with better perx than offered years ago. The American Express® Gold Card and the Amex Platinum are two different products that have two very different value propositions. Enroll in this benefit and take your card shopping to Saks Fifth Avenue or saks.com and receive up to $50 semi-annually in statement credits (up to $100 annually). You can earn up to $50 in statement credits from January to June and another $50 from July to December each year. Some purchases, such as gift card purchases and purchases from outlet stores like Saks Off 5TH Avenue, do not qualify for this credit.
